    Details

For most of us, our experience with careers is limited to our own journey so far, with limited exposure to other pathways and perspectives. The good news is that you don't actually have to know about all career paths to be helpful in a career conversation. In this workshop we will cover some useful modern theories of career development to keep us grounded in conversations, learn about labour market trends, and useful resources, strategies, and interventions to use in conversations with students. This workshop will blend learning about theories, with case studies, discussions, and time to practice new skills.

    Learning Outcomes:

    Learners will be able to:

    • Introduce evidence-based interventions appropriate to current student needs.
    • Apply client-appropriate career development theories to inform advising conversations such as Chaos Theory, Planned Happenstance, Systems Theory, Experiential Learning, and Design Thinking.
    • Maintain current knowledge of career development resources and information covering career planning, job search skills and materials, labour market, further education, and assessment tools.
    • Maintain awareness and proficiency with latest technology platforms and tools related to career development, academics, and effective service delivery.
    • Support students to make connections with professionals in fields of interest, and with opportunities for work, learning, and volunteering related to their future career goals.
