A tragic, though important influence on Jewish philosophy in the 20th century, is the Holocaust. The fact of this rationalization and industrialization of mass death demands that we reconsider our assumptions about ethics and politics. We will explore ways in which this rethinking has been done, by considering the philosophies of post-war Jewish Philosophers like Emmanuel Levinas, Hans Jonas, Hannah Arendt, and Theodore Adorno. Major works from these thinkers will be explored, as well as some shorter works, in order to understand their response to modernity.
