There’s nothing like the start of a new academic year at Queen’s, with the excitement of first-year students officially joining the tricolour community. This past weekend, Queen’s welcomed this year’s incoming students by working carefully with city partners to run a smooth and efficient move-in process.
“Move-in and orientation activities are incredibly important moments for our newest students and very meaningful for their families and supporters,” says Interim Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs Corinna Fitzgerald. “Staff and student volunteers, together with city partners, spend months preparing to welcome and support those arriving on campus. We hope this year’s move-in was a positive and memorable experience for everyone joining our community.”
More than 1,000 students and staff members volunteered their time to help welcome students, move their boxes inside, and get settled in.

Following move-in, Fall Orientation got underway on Sunday with the Tricolour Parade down Union Street to Richardson Stadium, where the entire Class of 2029 took part in a pep rally and official welcome.

At the event, they heard from Queen’s Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane, who wished them luck with their studies and encouraged them to think about how they can help create a healthy community at Queen’s and in the world after they graduate.

Students also started to build community with peers from their faculties and programs and got the chance to show some tricolour spirit by learning the Oil Thigh and how to cheer "Cha Gheil!"

Student orientation leaders also spoke to first-year students and prepared them for Faculty Orientation events, which began after the stadium welcome.
