Message from the Principal - Homecoming This Weekend
Dear members of the Queen’s community,
Dear members of the Queen’s community,
This past week has been a very difficult one for Jewish community members. South of the border, antisemitic hatred has been given a platform by public personalities, and that has had a chilling effect across the country and the world. Sadly, ĂŰĚŇ´«Ă˝ has also seen the emergence of this sentiment with swastika graffiti and messages of violence at various locations on campus and more recently reported through social media.

Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane hosted a gathering with local leaders at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts on Sept. 28 where he shared updates about Queen’s strategy and how the university is working to deepen relationships with community members through meaningful partnerships and a collaborative, shared vision for the future.
Like so many of you, I have watched with horror the events unfolding in Iran. The latest attacks by Iranian police on students protesting at Tehran’s Sharif University have brought this matter even closer to home. For several weeks, the world has watched as brave citizens have taken to the streets after the senseless death of a young woman at the hands of an oppressive regime. They have used their voices to challenge and criticize sexism, inequity, violence and abuse.
Dressed in orange, campus community members gather to reflect on residential school legacy and commit to ongoing learning and collaboration.
Academic regalia (the fancy gown and hat) is not something Principal Patrick Deane wears often save for convocation and a few other special events, but he recently took his gown across the Atlantic to wear at the anniversary signing ceremony of the Magna Charta Universitatum (MCU).
Principal Patrick Deane has determined the membership of a committee to advise him on the appointment of a permanent replacement to fill the position of Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic). The search for the new Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) is already underway. The committee will begin its work immediately.
