    Barry Wellar, C.M.

    BeSpatial Ontario recognized Barry’s pioneering role in Geographic Information Science (GIS) with its Hall of Fame Award at the 2024 conference. The citation emphasized his innovative contributions to the field, dedication to education, and his ongoing impact on shaping the future of GIS science, technology, and applications. His extensive credentials include: president of the Information Research Board, professor emeritus at the University of Ottawa, and numerous accolades, such as induction into the International GIS Hall of Fame, the Horwood Award, the Anderson Medal, the Ullman Award, and the Order of Canada.

    Abraham Blair

    Abraham successfully completed his PhD at the University of Toronto/OISE Curriculum, Teaching and Learning program. His dissertation is “Factors Contribution to Mathematics Success in Grade Eight Black Males.” He plans to teach at university in the future.

    Eric and Joanne Strom are celebrating their daughter Ciara’s graduation this June 19 from the Department of Chemistry at Queen’s. Her family and friends will be in Kingston to help celebrate and to wish her well. She has been accepted into the graduate program in Chemistry at Queen’s in September, where she will be performing research in the Chemistry department with Dr. Lee.

    Matthew Cain and his partner, Poppy, welcomed their first child, a beautiful boy named Ulysses, into the world in April. The new parents are elated and in love with their little guy.

    Chloe Whitehorn

    Spring 2024

    In October 2023, Theatre Kingston produced Blood River, a new play by Chloe about the crisis of women’s health rights. Coming up, Bottletree Productions will produce her play Dressing Amelia, as part of their in Kingston, which runs from May 30 to June 15, 2024.
