Beginning January 27, Queen’s will invite students to participate in the 2026 Shift Survey, the university’s confidential survey on campus culture and climate. The survey gathers student perspectives on safety, belonging, inclusion, equity, and overall campus life, and provides essential evidence that informs decisions affecting supports, services, and the student experience.

The Shift Survey was previously conducted in 2021 and 2023, with results helping to guide initiatives across campus to strengthen inclusion, improve services, and advance equity. The 2026 survey builds on that work and supports ongoing institutional learning and accountability.

To be respectful of how often students are asked to provide feedback, the survey will be sent to most students using a stratified random sample. Invitations will be distributed by email starting January 27. Students who do not receive an invitation and would like to take part may request a survey link by emailing irpsurv@queensu.ca. The survey will remain open until February 17 and takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Student input plays a critical role in shaping institutional priorities. The survey helps ensure that decisions across the university are informed by lived student experiences rather than assumptions, and that progress on campus culture and climate can be tracked over time.

As a thank you, students who complete the survey may enter a prize draw for one of five $500 tuition credits or one of two bicycles valued at $750 each. In addition, the first 1,000 respondents will receive either a $5 FLEX dining credit or may direct the university to donate those funds to the AMS Food Bank.

Staff and faculty are encouraged to support the survey by helping raise awareness and encouraging students who receive an invitation to participate.
